Parts of Braces

1. Brackets are bonded to the teeth with a help of the special material. Every bracket has information about the correct tooth position for which this bracket is intended. That is why each bracket has to be bonded only to the intended tooth. Though, the brackets without the arch wire do not move the teeth.

2. Archwire – provides most of the forces that move your teeth. It fits into the brackets, rings and locks, tied with the ligatures. The arch wires are made of different alloys. There can be different sections of arch wires: circular, square, rectangular. For each stage of treatment there are corresponding kinds of arch wires. The arch wires are changed from three to seven times during the treatment period..

3. Ligature are used to attach the arch wire to the bracket. They can be metal or elastic. The elastic tie are plenty of colors to choose. The ligatures are mostly changed – due to wearing out in the process of treatment..

4. Bands have the same function as the brackets and, in addition, they hold the arch wire. The bands are made of metal. They embrace the tooth on the diameter. Most often they are placed on the lateral teeth.

5. Orthodontic buccal tubes are interchangeable with the bands depending on the clinical situation.

6. Elastics (Rubber Band) – are the rings of different diameters made from the elastic fabric. The elastics are the additional elements of the brace system, which are used for teeth movement or the occlusion correctionon some stages of treatment.

7. Hook is the element of the tie wires, bands and some brackets, and it is the additional element to attach the elastics and the other elements.
